Appeal Denied on $7.9 Million Dollar Turf Field Ripoff

Apparently officials from the state Education Department never saw those Vote Yes signs on Ridge Road, or read the emails, with school district letterhead on them, urging residents to approve the $7.9 million dollar referendum.

This decision is just another reason that many people don't bother to vote when school budgets come before the public. The deck is stacked against us!

So on top of the 4% tax hike this September, Webster taxpayers will be saddled with paying for new turf fields for many years. I can't wait for next year when the school board announces yet another tax increase because of the state budget deficit and no more federal stimulus aid. But remember folks; "It's for the kids."

On the subject of the turf fields, I wonder why there are no letters to the editors from the two local 'tree-huggers' about the removal of trees to build this turf field? They certainly have a lot to say about the proposed removal of some trees behind Webster Plaza to make way for a secondary road to and from the plaza, Town Hall and the Court House, but are mute about tearing up trees for the turf field.

Good question Uncle Joe. After all the heat Nesbitt has taken on that deal, I'll bet he is wondering as well.

I was disappointed in the decision. The WCSD crafted a successful deception starting 4 years ago when a more modest plan was soundly defeated by the taxpayers. Stupid me, when they came up with the capital reserve I voted for it thinking it was going to take some of the ups and downs (well, reduce the ups) for capital repair to the buildings. I never expected they would have the "nads" to come around three years later with and even more grandiose plan than the one rejected and telling the taxpayers it won't cost them anything.

next school budget, we need to get more people involved to soundly defeat whatever they come up with. This trend can not continue and the 4% property tax cap the idiots in Albany are talking about is pretty useless when you have 8% unemployment and those that are employed aren't getting any raises - well except the school district employees.
